If you love anime, and you love Nintendo, prepare yourself for some potentially great news: there’s some Nintendo anime on the way in 2016.
According to company president Tatsumi Kimishima, whom spoke to a Japanese newspaper titled Mainichi Shimbun (translated via Dr. Serkan Toto), Nintendo will push its character licensing into anime movies and TV series, although specific details are not yet being given. Kimishima also reaffirms that those waiting for Nintendo NX details will get them in 2016. Unfortunately, he did not confirm or mention a Nintendo NX release date.
Kimishima’s big plans for 2016 will also include their mobile push, which will see the launch of Nintendo’s first ever smartphone app in March. It’s likely that the president is referring to the previously announced Pokemon Go, but he could also be talking about other mobile software.
Of course, the big news here is the Nintendo anime, which we’re hoping is handled properly. The potential for great stories based on Nintendo’s characters are endless, and hopefully something will come into fruition before the year ends.
