Overkill’s The Walking Dead Delayed to 2017

overkill software's the walking dead delayed releasing 2017Overkill’s The Walking Dead has been garnering some excitement from The Walking Dead fans. Sadly, the game won’t be hitting its targeted 2016 release.

It was announced today that Overkill will not be releasing the game until the second half of 2017.

If you are not up to date about this game, do not feel left out. There is still very little that we know about this game minus the original reveal trailer posted below. The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman did share a few details last year.

“One thing that we are doing, which I think is very cool about the Telltale game and the Starbreeze game and Air game is that they are all licensed games, and licensed games are usually somewhat crappy, but thankfully our’s aren’t,” said Kirkman. “The key I think, which is very important, is that we’re not doing, ‘Hey, it’s Daryl Dixon running around shooting zombies, because you like Daryl Dixon.’ Or ‘It’s Rick Grimes doing this because you like Rick Grimes.’ We’re telling our own stories and doing our own things almost as if they are original games.”

Recently, the game’s publisher, Starbreeze, received a $40 million investment from the Korean game company Smilegate. In the deal, Starbreeze receives 10 years of development rights to develop, publish, and distribute new entries in Smilegates Crossfire franchise.

The deal also allows Starbreeze to release PayDay 2 and Overkill Software’s The Walking Dead in the Asian markets.

This cross pollination could mean a lot of money for both companies, making the $40 million investment more than worth it.

In the meantime, enjoy the original reveal trailer for Overkill Software’s The Walking Dead below.
