Atlus, the studio behind Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei, is working on an entirely new IP. According to Famitsu, they are making a new “fantasy RPG” and “new challenge” with Naoto Hiraoka who oversees Atlas’ Consumer Software Bureau and Katsura Hashino, Director of Persona 5. The illustration above is the only image we have of the new IP. It is concept art by Nobuo Soejima, Character Designer for Persona 5.
With that tiny snippet of information, we can only speculate. Judging by Atlus’ previous work on Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei, it would be fairly safe to hope that this new RPG will be just as elaborate and emotional. I haven’t played Shin Megami Tensei myself, but Persona 4 I can at least say I’ve started. To say that game is elaborate is probably putting it lightly. That you can form relationships with just about anyone, even if they aren’t integral to the plot, are details I can definitely appreciate. More so, that all relationships can become fairly emotional because the game takes so much time to get those details in there.
For Atlus to apply all that talent to a brand new IP is very exciting for fans of either game. Hopefully, the studio will bring something fresh to genre as well, as some have said the the Japanese RPGs are growing stale. What do you hope for in Atlus’ new IP? Let us know in the comments below!
