BioWare’s upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda has been one of the most anticipated games for 2017 and it has been looking top-notch since its announcement. We’ve had a few tidbits of information, especially from N7 day, and it seems a new tiny bit has been gifted to us by Creative Director Mac Walters. On his Twitter, he answered a few questions from fans about the characters of the game.
The first confirmed to a fan that Sarah Ryder and “even the customizable characters” will be based on face scans. For those that don’t already know, this means that BioWare is using a 3D scanner (obviously of a higher quality than most mods out there) to create the faces of in-game characters. This doesn’t the put animators out of the business however, as there still needs to be points of movement and you can’t scan every single micro-expression of an actor. Along with plenty more important details that a computer can’t calculate for us yet.

The second Tweet answers a question about the Tempest, Andromeda‘s reincarnation of the Normandy (a ship that will be missed by most) for the player to cruise around the new galaxy with. Walters replied that the new ship will “not have access to the entirety of Andromeda” as the fan points out that “without Relays the Tempest will be limited to local clusters”. This certainly puts a damper on the open world aspect of the game, but at the same time this should allow BioWare to focus on the RPG elements we love so much.
Mass Effect Andromeda is set to release next year, hopefully, and on the PS4, PC, and Xbox One. Keep in mind that Producer Michael Gamble stated clearly that BioWare has no plans for Project Scorpio or Switch support, unless things change in the future.
