Japanese television channel NHK aired a cute little commercial for Dragon Quest‘s 30th anniversary and there’s even some new gameplay from Dragon Quest 11: In Search of Departed Time to see. The entirety of the presentation isn’t online yet for the rest of the world to see, but the footage we do have includes battles, new locations, and mountable flying dragon.
It’s a little comical, since the dragon is a little small in comparison to the character, but there’s another video featuring a far more plausible dragon ride from Dragon Quest 10. The rest of the commercial is mostly behind-the-scenes during the development of both the 3DS and PS4 versions, including what looks like a schematic for one of the levels.
It’s not terribly unusual for a Dragon Quest game to have flying mounts (Dragon Quest 10), but dragons are normally the enemies. Not usually up for a casual fly around the countryside. Nonetheless, it seems to be a fun, if minor, feature of the game as an alternative to the equestrian mount.
Dragon Quest 11 has not yet been confirmed for Western release, but here’s hoping popularity will win it over the sea. The game is to be released in Japan in 2017 on the PS4, 3DS, and Nintendo Switch. Are you looking forward to riding a dragon in the new game? Comment below and let us know!
