According to Destructoid, Nintendo is pulling a similar move as with Bayonetta 2. They are allegedly putting their own money into the development of the game. The coast of finally bringing this game to fruition is that it will be an exclusive for the Nintendo NX.
Nintendo’s hope is that this will bring some goodwill to the upcoming console. Beyond Good and Evil was received extremely well critically, but it failed commercially. This makes this game perfect for this kind of move.
Adding to the plausibility is the recent Devs Play with Tim Schafer and Michel Ancel. In their discussion of the sequel, Ancel kept bringing up Shigeru Miyamoto. While this isn’t an outright confirmation, it definitely raises some eyebrows.
The game has supposedly been given the working title of Beyond Good and Evil: The Prejudices of Philosphers. This makes reference to a chapter of the philosophical text Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche. In this text, it explains how morality can be influenced by authority and how black-and-white morality overlooks the complexity of our personal morals.
While this news is certainly surprising, it definitely makes sense the more you think about it. We will have to wait to see what comes of it, but if it means we are finally getting Beyond Good and Evil 2, then we’re on board.
