Fable Legends Cancelled by Microsoft, Studios Closed

fable legends cancelledIn the first major surprise this year, Microsoft has cancelled Fable Legends. Additionally, the lesser-known Project Knoxville has also ceased development.

The news comes from a statement on Xbox Wire from Hanno Lemke, the General Manager at Microsoft Studios Europe. “After much consideration we have decided to cease development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees about the proposed closure of Lionhead Studios in the UK,” said Lemke. “Additionally, we will close Press Play Studios in Denmark, and sunset development on Project Knoxville.”

While additional details were not given, Microsoft has been adamant about their investments on games and franchises that they feel people most want to play.

The next game in the Fable series was first announced in 2013. Players could pick to play in a team of four heroes or as a villain. As the villain, enemies are at your disposal to fight against the heroes. As a hero, you fight in a more standard way as you make your way to defeating the villain.

Project Knoxville was a third-person multiplayer survival game. Framed around a game show, players can either work together to survive or succumb to greed and coast the others aside.

It is never good news when games are cancelled as we believe there is always an audience for a game. We wish the best to the development teams and hope they move on to make something great.
