Dead Island 2 Now Developed by Sumo Digital

dead island 2Dead Island 2 has had a troubled history. Not only did it receive a major delay, it’s developer Yager was even taken off the project. Thankfully the game has found a new studio.

According to MCV, the project has been handed over to Sumo Digital. The studio has previously worked on projects including Disney Infinity, LittleBigPlanet, and Forza. Additionally. they are currently working on the upcoming Crackdown game for the Xbox One.

Speaking with MCV, Koch Mediea CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz said, “Sumo showed so much understanding of the brand, had creative ideas, and an excellent vision that was aligned with our own. It just made perfect sense for us to move the project to them. We will reveal more details at a later stage, but for now I’d like to say that we are obviously super excited about the progress that we are making with them.”

Dead Island 2 was first announced back in 2014 at Playstation’s E3 press conference. In July of 2015, Deep Silver took developer Yager off the project due to “creative differences.”

We were certainly excited to see what improvements were going to be made in the sequel. The design seemed to finally match the tongue-and-cheek nature of the original game with bright flashes of color instead of drab environments.

Until we hear more, we’ll leave you with the trailer that made us excited for Dead Island again. It looks like they understand what was fun about their game this time around. Best of luck Sumo Digital.
