16 Best Fire Emblem Fates Marriage Options: Romance Guide

Fire Emblem Fates, the newest installment of the strategy RPG Nintendo franchise, has been an absolute success during its first week of launch. After several sleepless nights, it can be said that these installments are some of the best in series, revolving around two royal families at war with one another and the decision of the main character on which path to choose. However,  choosing between Hoshido and Nohr may actually not be the hardest choice. What’s really hard in this game also is not Permadeth in Conquest, or Lunatic difficulty. The real struggle lies in choosing a partner for Corrin to marry, as there are several amazing S-Support options in both games. Marriage options galore, in fact.

Marrying a companion is not only an adorable element of romance, it serves an even bigger purpose in combat. Characters who are S ranked will give each other max pairing bonuses when on the battlefield, as well as having an influence on their children’s traits. All of your units children can be obtained through a Prologue fight.

This list is a Fire Emblem Fates marriage options guide for your avatar, whether it be for classes, combat, or a character with great personality and charm.

NOTE: These are NOT ranked, and child units are not included (that’s a list for another day).

1
Camilla

fire emblem fates camilla

Camilla, at first glance, is absolutely gorgeous. She’s the crown princess/royal of Nohr, delightfully taking care of Corrin. Many people have misconceptions about her character, but she has a very interesting personality and is a strong, loyal fighter who will protect Corrin at all costs. Her support is sweet, as she tries to take the protagonist on trips since he/she has been locked in a castle their entire life. She may be Corrin’s big “sister” but she is not related to him in any way. Camilla is also flirty, her support filled with memorable lines. She also is one of the best fighters on the Conquest side, absolutely wrecking (almost) everything as a Wyvern Rider. What’s not to love about her?

2
Xander

Xander is the mature older “brother” next in line for the throne of Nohr, and has one of the cutest supports with female Corrin. He is nothing but nice to the avatar, expressing his love for his “little princess”, which he says often. The support feels genuine and from the heart, as both the protagonist and Xander show care for one another, expressing their respect for each other throughout the years. Like Camilla, Xander is not blood related. He really is a true gentleman which is probably one of the reasons he’s so high on the Japanese popularity poll. Outside of the support, his character development is absolutely great as he plays a huge role in every story.

3
Azura

azura fire emblem

It’s almost as if the creators of Fates wanted Azura and the protagonist to be the canon couple of the game,  since everything just “fits” between the two. Azura is available on every route, playing a significant role in the story. She is an character awesome in a number of ways, from her beautiful singing voice to her kind and caring personality. Although she is reserved, Azura gradually opens up, especially to the Avatar. Many choose Azura to marry on the final route since it can be considered the “true ending”. There are also many hints and aspects of the story that suggest feelings between the protagonist and Azura. Either way, she is definitely a great choice for a male Corrin on any route.

4
Takumi

fire emblem marriage options

Tsundere characters, or ones who act cold then gradually become warmer towards a particular person, are often popular for a number of reasons. At first, Takumi does not seem to be a great marriage option at all, especially with how he acts towards the avatar. Hoshido welcomes the heroine with open arms, despite them being with Nohr their entire life. However, Takumi immediately labels the protagonist as a traitor despite which side the player chooses. He does eventually get past his initial impressions, becoming one of the most interesting characters in the game. Being the middle child, he longs to be as successful as his siblings, resulting in certain events occurring in Fates. His S-rank conversation reveals that he has fallen in love with the avatar after spending time training together, revealing that they are not related by blood.

5
Rinkah

fire emblem fates rinkah

The fiesty fighter from the Flame Tribe, Rinkah stands out as a strong, independent female character in the Birthright route. Rinkah has a bit of a sharp tongue and tries to be alone due to her tribe’s customs and her wish to eventually succeed her father. However, she learns that opening up to others isn’t a bad thing, which is revealed through the male Corrin’s S rank conversations. Her design is also really nice, as she looks as strong as her character is.

6
Jakob

jakob fef

From the very beginning, Jakob proves his absolute loyalty to you. He, as your butler, has been a devoted worker from day one. In fact, Jakob’s seemingly nice behavior is only directed towards the female MC, as he is somewhat rude to everyone else. He is happy to serve the needs of Corrin no matter what, his support with the MC eventually leading to the realization of his feelings toward the avatar. His support feels genuine, and he is also a great combat partner with ranged attacks and the unique butler class. Like a few other characters on this list, he is available to marry in all three games.

7
Niles

fef marriage options

There’s a lot to say about Niles. Originally named Zero in the Japanese release, Niles is quite a unique unit, his double entendres and flirtatious behavior bringing life to his character in Conquest. He is somewhat of a sadist, the roots of his behavior revealed in his backstory through various supports. Niles is a same sex marriage option for a male MC, and can also be married by a female MC. His character development is interesting, and he is one of the best archers in the game.

8
Oboro

oboro fire emblem fates

In the Birthright route, many characters have personal qualms with Nohr, and have been personally effected by the war between the families. Oboro is no exception, as she lost both of her parents from Nohrian assassins. Without going into too many spoilers, it can be said that Oboro is definitely a unique character, struggling with the loss of her parents, fighting on the battlefield, and sewing/coordinating outfits for the army, as she is very skilled in fashion. Her supports are rather good, and although she has a crush on Takumi, she is a great option for a male Corrin, especially with her spear fighter class.

9
Kaze

Kaze FEF

Another unit who will follow you whichever path you take, Kaze, from a Hoshidan ninja clan, is a popular marriage choice for female avatars. The entire support is filled with heartwarming dialogue, as Kaze believes he is not a kind person when he is actually the complete opposite. Corrin and Kaze have great chemistry and a heartfelt set of conversations during their time together.

10
Felicia

Jakob may be the Avatar’s butler, but Felicia is the maid counterpart. Clumsy, yet cute, Felicia serves Corrin to the best of her abilities. Although she is not the best maid around, she is great on the battlefield, using ranged attacks and healing staffs. For the male MC, she’s available from the beginning and will follow you on either path you choose. Her older twin sister Flora is also a great marriage choice, but is harder to obtain in the storyline.

11
Leo

leo fire emblem fates

The genius of Nohr’s royal family, Leo is easily one of the most popular marriage options in the game. His magic attacks are brutal, as he is highly skilled on the battlefield. Besides having a very handsome appearance, Leo is very strong and confident. Although he can appear to be rude sometimes, there is meaning behind it. Like the other royal siblings, he is not related to the avatar.

12
12. Odin

odin fire emblem

BEHOLD, ODIN DARK! Without spoiling, there’s a reason why Odin seems similar to another character from a past game, which is glorious. His lengthy battle calls and belief to be the “chosen one” add to his hilarious and well constructed character. Odin can be compared to a bard, telling a heroic tale while he is in it. His daughter acts the same way, making their supports some of the best in the game. Marrying such a nerd is amazing. Although Odin isn’t particularly strong as a dark mage, he can be reclassed.

13
Hinoka

hinoka fire emblem

One of the Hoshidan royal sisters, Hinoka is a great marriage option for the Avatar. Ever since a young age, she cared deeply for Corrin, becoming upset that she couldn’t protect him/her. In Birthright, they finally connect again and Hinoka is the strong woman that she aimed to be. Her heartfelt supports make the experience worthwhile.

14
Kaden

fire emblem kaden

The leader of the Kitsune clan, Kaden is a half human, half fox hybrid who is very cheerful and has a charming personality. He is really big on repaying people’s debts, which is something he emphasizes with the Female MC. Throughout the support, he is very happy to be in her company, and each rank is absolutely adorable. Since he uses a beast stone and Corrin is also a shape shifter, there are some great stat bonuses for their children.

15
Silas

fire emblem fates

Childhood friends as romantic partners are usually a popular pairing in Japanese games and pop culture. Silas, a Nohrian knight who has reconnected with you is available to marry in all three routes. The support between a female MC and Silas is absolutely adorable, reflecting on their childhood memories together and the futures as partners. If the MC marries Silas, you will have two children, including Sophie, Silas’s daughter.

16
Ryoma

fire emblem marriage partners

The older brother of Hoshido, labeled by fans as “Lobster King” is a calm and collected future leader of the clan. A great strategist who always thinks things through, Ryoma is a master battle tactician with a soft side. Like Takumi, his roles in both Birthright and Conquest are spectacular to the very end. He has similarities with Xander of Nohr but stands out as his own unique character and husband.

Other great first generation options: Elise, Sakura, Severa, Lazlow, Peri, Keaton, Subaki
Great second generation options: Ophelia, Foleo, Rhajat, Selkie
