Fortnite Fly Explosives Mode Debuts with 5.1 Update

The 5.1 update has gone live in Fortnite Battle Royale this morning. The latest patch sees the return of the Guided Missile, and reintroduces the jetpack within the new Fortnite Fly Explosives mode. Epic also confirmed there will be no downtime to enjoy the new content. Everything should be ready to go.

The Fortnite Fly Explosives mode is essentially explosives only, but with jetpacks thrown in to add further chaos into the mix. In the new mode, the jetpack will be more prominent as their fuel regeneration rate has been increased and their fuel burn rate has been decreased.

Epic has also adjusted storm speeds within the new Fortnite Fly Explosives mode. The developers stated that “Between-storm wait times have been reduced due to players needing less time to find adequate loot.” Average match lengths in the new mode should come in under 20 minutes.

Your profile stats, including kills, deaths and wins, will all be tracked while playing Fly Explosives. Epic also confirmed that the jetpack will now be available for use within Playground mode. A debuting alongside the jetpack in Playground mode is the Guided Missile.

The return of the Guided Missile comes with a few changes. Epic says the item “has been tweaked and tuned down as it was too strong upon its initial release.” The Guided Missile’s fuse time has been cut from 18 seconds to 15 seconds, and its speed has been reduced from 1,100 to 1,000. Reload time is now 2.4 seconds when it was previously 2.2 seconds. And structure damage has been nerfed considerably, now at 400 when it was initially 1,100.

Quick note to those that play a lot of Fortnite Battle Royale on your iOS devices. This week’s update is meatier than usual on your end, coming in at 2 GB. Plan your download time accordingly.
