If you just finished the most recent Witcher game and had your eyes set on The Witcher 4, you may have to wait quite a bit longer than you expected.
The co-founder of CD Projekt Red Marcin Iwinski spoke with the good people of Eurogamer. In the interview, he was asked whether or not the company would be finished with The Witcher series after the release of the Blood and Wine DLC on May 31.
“We honestly don’t know,” said Iwinski. “We don’t have anything planned as of now to be honest on the next Witcher. As we said before, never say never [but] right now it’s really Blood and Wine. This is the end. Blood and Wine is [the] closing and there won’t be any Witcher any time soon – if there ever will be one. And I would really like to see how people feel about it, if they will enjoy it.”
Instead, it looks like the studio is really focusing on their other upcoming games. Recently, they revealed a six-year plan. In this plan, their next big game, Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to release after 2017. Afterward, there is another AAA role-playing game between 2017 and 2021. If it’s not The Witcher 4, what is it?
While we are eager to play both these games, we are even more excited for the smaller game they are supposedly releasing this year. It’s been said to be “a new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio.” Is this a new genre? A VR game? The possibilities are literally endless. Whatever the case may be, the studio has one hell of a track record. We will patiently be waiting until the first preview finally appears.
It’d be a real shame if we don’t get some sort of The Witcher 4 PS4/Xbox One/PC, but it’s looking like we won’t see another game in the series this generation.
