Posted on Twitter by director Michael Doughtery, we have the first image of Godzilla as it will appear in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Well, not exactly at the monster will appear, the graphic is clearly still being worked on, but it is still a fairly coherent picture of what the big guy will look like.
In blue, we see on an apparent screen that Godzilla once again as a unique look that sets it apart from most other depictions. Glowing eyes and a wide open mouth full of sharp teeth are familiar from the first movie in the series, however. The yellow reflection in the car window is unclear, but it could be anything from another monster or a reflection of Godzilla.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters will show us epic battles between Godzilla and Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah. Humans are simply caught in the middle of this one, and there isn’t much the “crypto-zoological agency Monarch” can do about it.
These are ancient creatures without much regard for the smaller creatures currently populating the planet. It will interesting to see where these creatures were hiding all this time, though to be fair, there a plenty of places to hide other than the ocean.
Nonetheless, the film stars Vera Farmiga (The Departed), Bradley Whitford (The West Wing), Thomas Middleditch (Kong: Skull Island), Sally Hawkins (the 2014 Godzilla), and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), and Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things). Quite the star-studded cast, and at least two who have been a part of this monster series before.
King of the Monsters is the third iteration of the latter and will be hitting theatres come March 22, 2019. It’s a long way off, but Kong: Skull Island might be worth a rewatch in the mean time. Especially if you’re a Hiddleston fan, plenty of dark smouldering looks and bad ass moves.
