A new report from Collider states that some big names are attached to a new Netflix project. The outlet states that a Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Netflix movie is in development for the streaming giant.
The Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Netflix movie is said to be helmed by Catfish directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. Mattson Tomlin wrote the script for the film.
An article from Variety written in October of last year references Netflix’s purchase of a “white hot spec script” written by Tomlin. The project went by the working title Power, and apparently drew “a lot of interest and bids from multiple studios.”
Power is likely one in the same with our newly cast Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Netflix movie. Collider says the plot “concerns a drug epidemic that gives people a range of superpowers. The protagonist is believed to be a teenage actress of color who finds herself dealing the drug to help care for her family.”
Jamie Foxx is attached to portray a family man who “has suffered a great loss and is desperate to trace the drug’s supply line and find its designer.” Opposite Foxx is Joseph Gordon-Levitt who has been cast as “a beat cop who takes law enforcement matters into his own hands.”
Netflix is doing a fantastic job of bringing some big named actors within its fold. Now that he’s hung of his cape, Henry Cavill has been cast in the role of Geralt in the upcoming The Witcher series. Emma Stone, Jonah Hill, Justin Theroux and Sally Field star in Cary Fukunaga‘s Maniac, available today. And Paul Rudd is working with the studio on his new series, Living with Yourself.
There are plenty of other examples, of course. But these are just a few of the more prominent ones announced recently. Netflix is continually developing more in-house projects and fading out their portfolio of licensed properties. Whether this proves to be successful in the long run, only time will tell.
