Iwan Rheon certainly has a villainous track record, with four seasons of Game of Thrones as Ramsay Bolton behind him. Played so convincingly, that I was forced to skip the torture scenes with character Theon Greyjoy as played by Alfie Allen. Even so, Bolton was probably more collectively hated by audiences than even King Joffrey Baratheon. As such, it seems only fitting that Rheon continue on to play another villainous character in Marvel’s new show, Inhumans.
Reported by the Hollywood Reporter, the show will be eight episodes and is based on the comic book series of the same name. The series focuses on the adventures of the Inhuman Royal Family, and their home, the city of Attilan. The Inhumans are a race that was evolutionarily advanced when human beings were still in the Stone Age. Thus far, we’ve caught a glimpse of these special folk in the second season of Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
More From Nerd Much?:
Rheon will be playing the character Maximus, the apparently tragic villain who wants nothing more than to usurp his brother the King and rule Attilan himself. Going to such lengths as to encourage poor decisions and even assassination attempts. It certainly sounds like Rheon would fit right into the role. Indeed, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb and showrunner Scott Buck has been quoted by the Hollywood Reporter that they picked Rheon for role because of his “ability to be charming, roguish, and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. Maximus is a complex character. Likable, charming, tragic, and villainous all in the same moment, and I’m excited to have someone of Iwan’s considerable talent.”
