The Tomb Raider movie reboot has finally found its Lara Croft. We are crossing our fingers that the movie proves just as successful as the previous ones.
Vikander first gained notoriety for her performance in Ex Machina. She also recently won an Oscar for her role in The Danish Girl. Whether you’ve seen her or not, you can definitely expect a great performance.
Many other actresses were eyed for the role including Daisy Ridley. While we would have also loved Ridley in the role, we are more than happy with this casting choice. It is hard to argue with the decision when both are incredible actresses.
Interesting enough, sources say that Vikander had always been their first choice. The only reason for the delayed announcement was that the studio was waiting on a new draft of the script.
The original Tomb Raider movies released in 2001 and 2003 and grossed an incredible $432 million worldwide.
With Square Enix rebooting the games in 2013, it will be interesting to see how the movie might be influenced. The new games star a younger Lara Croft who is just starting off on her adventures.
As one of the rare examples of good movies based on a video game, we are excited to see what becomes of this Tomb Raider movie reboot. There is already quality in the acting department, so now we just eagerly await the first trailer.
