During an interview with Deadline, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked about the various upcoming movies. One question asked whether or not we would see any of the supporting heroes star in their own film. According to Feige, Black Widow is “certainly the one creatively and emotionally [they] are most committing to doing.”
Feige explained that the studio thinks “she is an amazing character. Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing.” He believes that as one of the main Avengers, she has some “amazing stories in her own right that would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise.”
We definitely feel like Feige has put a lot of thought into the character before. Her character has been receiving more and more attention with each film. In fact, this isn’t even the first time Marvel has shown interest in a solo film. The studio has been in talks with Johansson for years now. So far it seems like it is still just sitting in the back of their minds.
A standalone Black Widow movie is a great way to finally add some more female heroes front and center. With the popularity of the character already, we have strong hopes that she’ll get her movie eventually. The real question is how long?
