Entertainment Weekly has been lucky enough to get the first photo of Marvel’s The Inhumans, which will be coming this Fall to IMAX theatres and then the ABC Channel. So far the show is signed for eight episodes, no word yet if there will be more. Just to be clear, the Inhumans are a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and do hold the potential to show up in shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., though nothing has been confirmed.
In the darling photo are the main characters of the series, the Royal Family, which include from right to left: Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Ken Leung as Karnak, Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, and Iwan Rheon as Maximus.
Showrunner Scott Buck commented on the photo and how they brought the Inhumans to life, stating that they approached the characters as “real people who just happen to have these abilities.”
Alright, I’m going to say what Entertainment Weekly won’t: these costumes do not look anything like the comic book versions. The worst of all of them, I think fans of the comic can agree, is Medusa. Her hair is supposed to look alive and constantly flowing, not like a too-bright wig from the Halloween store. Her dress is supposed to be that of a kind of royal queen, conservative but sexy – not a plain lavender gown that looks as stiff and unmoving as her hair.
I don’t know what Buck truly meant by “real people,” but this photo makes it look like amateur cosplayers who didn’t look very closely at the source material.
Do you think these costumes resemble the comics at all? What do you think they have improve on and what should they keep? Let us know in the comments below!
