According to Kotaku, in the upcoming Pokémon movie titled Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You, Ash will not be accompanied by Brock and Misty. The pair were with Ash for about two seasons of the initial Pokémon Indigo League series. Their absence has left some fans unsatisfied with the prospect of seeing the new movie when it comes out July 15, 2017.
However Brock and Misty do apparently make it to the end credits, according to one Twitter post, so perhaps not all is lost. We might very well see them at the very end, hinting at a sequel to the movie because one is surely not enough.
Instead, Ash will be accompanied by Souji and Makoto. These are completely unknown characters, though it is worth noting that Pokémon from the first two generations and Sun and Moon appear in the new movie. The combination of so many generations could explain Ash’s new companions, though nothing further has been mentioned by Kotaku or the official movie website.
The disappointment still festers, however, when we can see in the trailers that Brock and Misty were written out of the Butterfree episode. Most fans will remember the heartbreaking moment when Ash releases Butterfree forever. It was one of the few moments we cared more than a little about the characters involved. We have yet to see if their absence affect the scene negatively.
Others that were credited in the new movie include Tracey, May, Max, Dawn, Iris, Cilan, Serena, Clemont and Bonnie. And let’s not forget Team Rocket, which is said to be in the film as well. I will never forget how cheesy those two are, or their amazing hair. It was like villains back then were defined by the kind of terrible jokes your junior high school teachers would come up with.
Personally, I’m not too concerned with the lack of Brock and Misty. It seems like they really want to revamp the old series into something different, not just remastered. But we’ll see for sure if Brock and Misty will truly be missed when the film comes out.
