The Lion King Remake Cast is Official and Beyoncé is Playing Nala
Jon Favreau and Disney have put together a hell of a cast
Disney’s cast for Jon Favreau’s upcoming live-action The Lion King has been officially announced. And oh boy, there are some big names in here.
Starting with the headliner, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has been cast in the role of Nala. Nala, of course, plays Simba’s best friend as a child before he runs off into the jungle following the death of his father. Simba eventually returns and reunites with Nala as they attempt to take the kingdom back from their evil Uncle.
Beyoncé was actually in Disney news recently following an interview done by Beauty and the Beast director, Bill Condon. Condon hopped to put Knowles-Carter into the role of Fifi. Fifi is the feather duster and also girlfriend to Lumière. Condon said that he “tried to get her into Beauty and the Beast, but it wasn’t a big enough part. She would have been a good feather duster.”
And while Beyoncé might be a huge name for the cast, she certainly isn’t the only one. Here is the full breakdown of The Lion King’s characters and the actors who will voice them:
Simba – Donald Glover
Nala – Beyoncé Knowles-Carter
Mufasa – James Earl Jones
Scar – Chiwetel Ejiofor
Sarabi – Alfre Woodard
Zazu – John Oliver
Rafiki – John Kani
More From Nerd Much?:
Pumbaa – Seth Rogan
Timon – Billy Eichner
Azizi – Eric André
Shenzi – Florence Kasumba
Kamari – Keegan-Michael Key
Young Simba – JD McCrary
Young Nala – Shahadi Wright Joseph
Wow, right? First off all, it’s amazing that James Earl Jones is coming back to reprise the role of Mufasa. No one else would sound right attempting to do that role. The ultra talented Donald Glover is a fantastic choice for Simba as well. Chiwetel Ejiofor is certain to bring a dark and ominous presence to Scar too.
John Oliver is an inspired choice for the role of Zazu, and John Kani seems like a perfect match for Rafiki. And Seth Rogan and Billy Eichner in the role of Pumbaa and Timon? That’s fantastic. The trio of Eric André, Florence Kasumba and Keegan-Michael Key also looks completely perfect to take on the iconic hyena trio.
Favreau’s live-action The Lion King remake is currently slated to hit theaters July 19, 2019.
