Aquaman’s First Trailer Shows off Atlantis, Black Manta, & More
Under the Sea
Aquaman is perhaps one of the most anticipated movies of the year and we finally got our first look at it. Shown during the Warner Brothers Comic-Con Panel, this trailer certainly has boarding the hype train.
Directed by horror master James Wan, Aquaman acts as an origin story for the titular character and how he became king of Atlantis. During the trailer, we also get to see Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson), and Aquaman’s love interest, Mera (Amber Heard).
Despite the mixed success of DC’s Extended Universe, Aquaman appears to be a step in the right direction. Wan clearly understands the material and what this gorgeous world should look like. Jason Momoa’s performance is still quite entertaining, but how he handles the more dramatic, emotional moments will be critical.
The action itself looks fantastic along with the colorful costumes and sea creatures populating this film. All of the action looks spectacular and we fully expect some extremely elaborate fight scenes – especially in that underwater arena.
There was also a second Aquaman trailer shown privately to the attendees of Warner Brothers panel that contains a ton of spoilers. While we doubt that this footage will be shown to the public, it’s clear how confident Warner Brothers is in this film. However, we do know that this expended look showed Momoa in the full Aquaman outfit.
With this, Shazam, and Wonder Woman 1984 on the way, DC has a chance to regain some footing in the superhero genre. Now, all we have to do is wait until December and hope Aquaman is as good as it looks.
Aquaman is set to release on December 21, 2018.
