Once Upon a Deadpool Trailer Stars a Kidnapped Fred Savage
If you felt that Deadpool 2 was too much for you or your children, Fox is hoping they have the solution to pull you into theaters to catch it anyway. The studio is releasing Once Upon a Deadpool theatrically next month, and they’ve dropped the first Once Upon a Deadpool trailer to hint as to what’s to come.
The Once Upon a Deadpool trailer gives an indication as to what the entire premise for the project is. Just like a young Fred Savage in The Princess Bride being read a bedtime story, Deadpool is hoping to replicate that exact dynamic in his sequel’s rerelease. Once Upon a Deadpool is said to be the titular character reading the events of Deadpool 2 with all the appropriate scenes added in where necessary. However, the character will omit all of the inappropriate language and moments that would exceed a PG-13 audience.
Many people look at this upcoming rerelease as a cheap cash-in by Fox to gain a larger market share. However, judging from the studio’s plans and from what we see in the first Once Upon a Deadpool trailer, a lot of care looks to be going into this PG-13 rendition of the Deadpool 2. Ryan Reynolds and the creative look like they’ve come up with a decent idea to help weave the story for a less mature audience without completely gutting it for a PG-13 adaptation.
Fox is certainly going to make a lot of money off of Once Upon a Deadpool, but the company is also taking this opportunity to lend their help towards a good cause. For every ticket sold, Fox will contribute $1 towards the Fudge Cancer charity. The charity was apparently previously known as Fuck Cancer, but Fox states they’ve “graciously changed their name to be more PG-13 friendly for the 12 days of Once Upon A Deadpool’s release.”
Reynolds too teased why he gave in and aided Fox in making a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2. The funny man said “Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006. I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…”
