The Lego Movie 2 Trailer Introduces Both New Faces and Old
After the success of The Lego Movie in 2014, it was readily apparent that a sequel would be forthcoming. Today, Warner Bros. Pictures via their Warner Animation Group banner has given us the best look yet at that sequel with the latest The Lego Movie 2 trailer.
Officially titled The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, its trailer begins ominously. Elizabeth Banks’ Wyldstyle starts it out brooding, saying “Once, everything was awesome. Now, everything is bleak.” Upon which Chris Pratt’s Emmet immediately pops up jovially with coffee.
The gang is out to save their home of Bricksburg from the invasion of Lego: Duplo. Something that was teased at the end of the first movie. Lego: Duplo is a line of children’s Lego blocks that are much larger than typical Lego pieces. And the fact that children’s Lego pieces could rain destruction on our heroes is hilarious in itself. Here’s the upcoming film’s full description courtesy of Warner Animation Group:
“The much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed, global box office phenomenon that started it all, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all-new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are now facing a huge new threat: Lego: Duplo invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than it can be rebuilt.
The battle to defeat the invaders and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman, and their friends to far away, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.”
Many of our heroes from the first movie return and new ones emerge. One of the new characters is known as Rex Dangervest. A cocky hero who just so happens to look and sound like a much cooler Emmet. The character is regarded as a Galaxy Defender, Archeologist, Cowboy and Raptor Trainer. A joke that Chris Pratt’s Emmet says he doesn’t get.
There are new villains on display in The Lego Movie 2 trailer too. They include Tiffany Haddish’s Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi, Stephanie Beatriz’s Sweet Mayhem, and Arturo Castro as, Ice Cream Cone.
A bunch of DC characters made a quick cameo in The Lego Movie 2 trailer today as well. Confirmed to be reprising their roles are Channing Tatum as Superman, Jonah Hill as Green Lantern, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn for the first time in a Lego movie.
Written once again by Phil Lord and Chris Miller with directing by Mike Mitchell and Trish Gum, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part hits theaters on February 8th. It will be released by Warner Bros. in both 2D and 3D formats.
