Hellboy Trailer Makes the Reboot Look Like a Hell of a Good Time

We’ve been waiting quite a while to feast our eyes on David Harbour as the titular half-demon hero. But the wait is over. Lionsgate has released the first Hellboy trailer for the upcoming reboot, and it R-rated movie looks like it’s going to be a hell of a great time.

After watching the first Hellboy trailer, you almost get a Deadpool type of feel from the project. Directed by Neil Marshall, the movie doesn’t look like it takes itself too seriously. There’s plenty of lighthearted and funny moments peppered throughout the trailer. But interspersed is also some action that looks as though it will earn that R.

Harbour nails the leading role from what we see in today’s Hellboy trailer. He’s almost unrecognizable as the giant red half-demon superhero. We get to see a bit of Ian McShane as Hellboy’s adoptive father and founder of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, Trevor Bruttenholm. And Sasha Lane and Daniel Dae Kim get a good bit of screen time as Alice Monaghan and Ben Daimio.

We only see Milla Jovovich for a few moments within the Hellboy trailer as the film’s main villain, The Blood Queen, Nimue. But she clearly looks like a powerful foe as she attempts to eliminate mankind.

If you’re unfamiliar with the upcoming reboot, Lionsgate is here to help. The studio issued the following synopsis of the flick with the release of the Hellboy trailer:

“Hellboy is back, and he’s on fire. From the pages of Mike Mignola’s seminal work, this action-packed story sees the legendary half-demon superhero (David Harbour, “Stranger Things”) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil series), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.”

Hellboy arrives in theaters on April 12th.
