According to Netflix’s blog post, we should start seeing movies pop up from Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar starting in September. Already they are streaming movies like Mulan, Hercules, and The Emperor’s New Groove.
What’s interesting is that this is all from an agreement that was signed all the way back in 2012. In this agreement, Netflix became the exclusive U.S. subscription service for first-run live-action and animated features from Walt Disney.
Up until now, this has really only included small amounts of classic Disney titles. Movies have cycled in and out of the lineup since then. Now, we may be able to enjoy newer classics like The Force Awakens, Inside Out, or Avengers: Age of Ultron.
This is a big step for Netflix becoming even more of a powerhouse than it already is. We already think that it is one of the best reasons to cancel your cable subscription, but this Disney and Netflix partnership is some pretty incredible icing on an already great cake. If you aren’t already signed up with Netflix, what are you waiting for?
