Dune Cast Brings in Josh Brolin to Bolster it Further

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune cast continues to expand. And at this point it’s just getting pretty damn ridiculous. The latest news from the project suggests that Josh Brolin will be joining the film’s roster of talent. With reports stating that the actor has closed a deal just recently to take on the crucial role of the swordsman, Gurney Halleck.

In David Lynch’s 1984 Dune, Halleck was famously played by Sir Patrick Stewart. Now Brolin’s to foster, the character is the loyal Weapons Master of House Atreides. Halleck has an important role to play following the fall of the Atreides family. He’s dubbed as “instrumental in the wakening of [Paul] Atreides’ cosmic powers, which will start a revolution.”

The Dune cast is impressive to say the least. The movie will be led by Timothée Chalamet as the Paul Atreides and Rebecca Ferguson as his mother, Jessica Atreides. Dave Bautista was confirmed for the role of Beast, with Stellen Skarsgard brought on to play his uncle, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.

Charlotte Rampling was later set to take on the important role of Reverend Mother Mohiam. Javier Bardem came aboard shortly thereafter as Stilgar. And although still unconfirmed, both Oscar Isaac and Zendaya are reportedly joining the Dune cast as Duke Leto Atreides (Paul’s father, Jessica’s husband) and the latter as Paul’s love interest, Chani.

Filming on Villeneuve’s Dune is slated to begin sometime this spring. Locales beings scouted for the shoot include Budapest and Jordan.

Josh Brolin has been a figurehead of the pop culture/sci-fi landscape of late. Not only was he lauded for his portrayal of the Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, but he was also fantastic as Cable in Deadpool 2. Brolin will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to finish his arc as the Mad Titan when Thanos returns within Avengers: Endgame in April.
