Hellboy Red Band Trailer is Devilishly Good

Lionsgate finally showed their cards and released a Hellboy Red Band trailer to the masses this morning. It’s loaded with action and blood, and a few comedic bits to fill in the rest. But above all, it’s awesome.

The Hellboy Red Band trailer begins upon an island off the coast of Scotland. Here, the Nazi regime is attempting to “summon something from the depths of hell. Something that would end mankind.” What they got, was baby Hellboy. And I’ll damned if the little hell spawn isn’t adorable.

It’s here that we first see Ian McShane’s Trevor Bruttenholm – Hellboy’s adoptive father and founder of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Some time passes, and Hellboy is reintroduced to Bruttenholm. Hellboy complains about being made into “a goddamn weapon.” To which Daniel Dae Kim’s Ben Daimio responds, “Where’s my fucking violin?” Yes folks, this is indeed a Red Band trailer.

We then cut to the team landing in some snowy mountains as their debriefed by Bruttenholm as to a “fifth century sorceress.” He’s referring to Milla Jovovich’s Nimue the Blood Queen. And the character, as we’ll see later, apparently wants to wed our titular character. Likely to complete some sort of ritual, no doubt.

All hell breaks loose from there as Nimue begins to terrorize London. And the Hellboy Red Band trailer puts the main character on display in bloody fashion too. A knife to someone’s head, dismembering enemies, and riding on a hell dragon wielding a flaming fucking sword. It’s a pretty epic moment.

We get to see a bit of his sidekicks as well. Sasha Lane’s Alice Monaghan has magical abilities that she uses at one point to separate someone’s soul from their body. And the aforementioned Kim’s Daimio has the ability to turn into a jaguar when injured or angered. It’s played for comedic effect when David Harbour’s Hellboy punches him the face and growls like a cat in an effort to make him transform.

There’s a lot of monsters and demons. There’s a lot of blood. And there’s a ton of violence. But all in all, there’s a lot of exciting looking stuff going on here. Lionsgate’s Hellboy Red Band trailer did a fantastic job giving fans an insight as to what to expect.

It’s not long before the gates of hell are unleashed. Hellboy is summoned to theaters on April 12th.
