New Brightburn Trailer Depicts What Happens if Superman Were Evil

If you thought some of Warner Bros.’ DCEU superhero films were too dark, James Gunn and David Yarovesky are here to say “hold my beer”. A new Brightburn trailer has arrived today, and it horrifically depicts a world terrorized by a young boy gone bad who can wield powers very similar to Superman’s.

Coming to us courtesy of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Brightburn doesn’t even attempt to hide its similarities to the Man of Steel. An alien child arrives on the Breyer farm after crash-landing from another world. And the duo take him in and become his adoptive parents. They then attempt to mold young Brandon Breyer into a future hero, but things obviously, don’t go according to plan.

Sony’s official synopsis reads, “What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? In this horrific take on the classic superhero trope, a couple adopts a baby who came from the stars. While they attempt to raise the boy to use his powers for good, an evil begins to grow inside that he unleashes.”

Brandon Breyer appears to have the majority of the same powers that Kal-El would eventually develop under the care of the Kents. Super strength, invulnerability to physical damage, laser vision, flight, super speed and more. But unlike Clark, Brandon is more interested in taking revenge upon those that have wronged him than to be the beacon of hope for humanity.

This new Brightburn trailer takes us beyond where the first one left off. The initial footage of the film hinted as to Brandons’ dark ways. In today’s trailer we get to see all too well what horrors the boy is capable of.

Brightburn is directed by David Yarovesky with James Gunn and Kenneth Huang credited as the project’s producers. James’ cousin Mark Gunn and brother Brian wrote the script for the flick. It’s slated to terrorize theaters as of May 24th.
