Addams Family Trailer is Loaded with Charm

It was nearly a year ago when MGM began touting the talent they had lined up for their animated adaptation of The Addams Family. The cast was loaded with big names, but we would be waiting a while before we got to see their talents in action. Well, wait no more, as the studio dropped their first Addams Family trailer this morning.

If you haven’t been following the project to this point, MGM has assembled an all-star cast to bring these iconic characters to life. Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron take on the parental roles of Gomez and Morticia Addams. Chloë Grace Moretz handles the sullen Wednesday Addams. And Stranger Things and It star Finn Wolfhard voices Pugsley Addams.

The rest of the core cast is rounded out with Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester. And though they aren’t seen in the Addams Family trailer, Bette Midler voices Grandma and Allison Janney takes on the role of the Addams family’s rival, Margaux Needler.

Today’s Addams Family trailer doesn’t really show us anything indicative of the film’s plot. It’s more of an introduction of sorts to the quirky household. But we have been told previously that the animated take on the franchise “will follow the Addams family whose lives begin to unravel when they face-off against a crafty reality-TV host while also preparing for their extended family to arrive for a major celebration, Addams-style.”

The upcoming adaptation is being directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon from a script penned by Matt Lieberman. The duo previously helmed Sausage Party together. And Vernon has additional directorial credits including Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. Vernon is also attached to direct an upcoming Jetsons adaptation, as well as The Toxic Avenger reboot that’s in the works.

The Addams Family trailer certainly has some charm to it. We’ll get to see the family’s first foray into animation (outside of Charles Addams’ original cartoons, of course) when it hits theaters October 11th.
