Everyone knew that Avengers: Endgame was going to be a box office juggernaut. Projections were incredibly high for the film, but until the actual numbers come in it would only be speculation as to just how well it would perform. Well, those numbers are in. And Endgame now holds the all-time record for the best Thursday night preview performance.
The film’s three-hour runtime was thought to be a detriment to the movie’s chance at accumulating box office records. But with the amount of fans flocking to see the endgame at their first opportunity, the extended length didn’t much matter.
Avengers: Endgame grossed about $60 million last night alone, making it the top-grossing Thursday preview ever in the United States and Canada. The movie surpassed J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ 2015 debut to take the number one slot in that category.
This is likely just the first of many box office records that Avengers: Endgame will likely acquire. Industry estimates predict that the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Infinity War sequel will indeed bring home the record for the first $300 million plus weekend. Friday opening day estimates are slotted between $130 to $140 million. Which would best The Force Awakens’ Friday haul of $119.1 million.
The movie’s predicted ongoing success doesn’t seem to be stemming from the sheer spectacle of 22 MCU movies culminating in one event. According to reviews, the three-hour picture is incredibly well crafted in its own right as we here at Nerd Much? gave it an impressive score. And Marvel Studio’s Twitter is happy to share a promo reel they pinned which presents all forms of accolades for the movie.
We’ve waited a long time to see a decade of incredible story telling lead toward its (current) finale. Now, get your asses out there and enjoy history. Just remember that after catching the movie yourself – Don’t Spoil the Endgame.
