With it’s release just a few months away, Warner Bros. have released the first It: Chapter 2 trailer. The footage gives us an extended look at one scene, and snippets of many more of the film’s horrors coming in September.
The It: Chapter 2 trailer starts us off with some footage that was previously screened for convention fans. It features Jessica Chastain’s Beverly Marsh returning to her childhood home in Derry. The very same in which she was abused by her father as a child.
A seemingly sweet older woman, Mrs. Kersh, lives there now. She invites Beverly to look around, and she does as she’s seeking the postcard love note that Ben Hanscom had written to her in their teens. As she rereads it, we see Mrs. Kersh in the background moving in a grotesque manner.
Beverly begins chatting with Mrs. Kersh, and it doesn’t take long for her to realize that something is off about the woman. Eventually, she goes to make her way out of the home, but is then attacked before the scene cuts over to the rest of the It: Chapter 2 trailer.
The rest of the footage is mostly quick cuts. We see the reunion of the Loser’s Club, now all adults 27 years older. There’s James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, the aforementioned Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, Bill Hader is Richie Tozier, Jay Ryan is Ben Hanscom, Isaiah Mustafa plays adult Mike Hanlon and James Ransone is Eddie Kaspbrak.
Each are featured within the montage that shows their collective return to Derry. And each have a moment or so of terror as they reflect upon their past hauntings. It’s clear that It is back, and they’ve gathered to put a final stop to the creature.
Any Muschietti’s sequel, originally written by Stephen King, of course, hits theaters September 6th.
