A little over a month ago at Disney’s Star Wars Celebration, J.J. Abrams treated the world to the first trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It was awesome. And in the weeks since we’ve been clamoring for fresh details on the Skywalker swansong. Today, we’ve got them. As Variety has published a slew of set photos divulging details on the flick. Including confirmation that The Knights of Ren will return in the movie.
The Knights of Ren are a group of Force sensitive warriors whom are led by Kylo Ren. Under the rule of Supreme Leader Snoke, they assisted Kylo in hunting down Luke Skywalker to end any chance of the Resistance regaining power.
Their designs are actually rejected ideas for Kylo Ren’s original conception in The Force Awakens. Previously only seen during a rainy vision of Rey’s, Variety’s image published today gives us our best look at the characters yet.
In the image, we see director J.J. Abrams alongside The Rise of Skywalker’s stunt coordinator, Eunice Huthart, giving direction to a team of six actors clearly donning The Knights of Ren attire. Variety tags the image with a description which reads “elite fearsome enforcers of Kylo Ren’s dark will.”
There is quite a bit of disparity between each of the individual’s looks – though they all have a ruthless and black look. None of their designs seem to be affiliated much with the Dark Side of the Force. Instead, they look like a hodgepodge of outlaws that likely assist Ren in getting whatever dirty work he needs done. In The Rise of Skywalker, that likely includes eliminating whomever (Finn, Poe, etc.) is assisting Rey. Ren surely wants her for himself.
Variety’s piece is loaded for other images that gleam various details about the upcoming finale. There’s an image of Keri Russell “as the masked scoundrel Zorri Bliss.” Set pictures of our various heroes and villains. A shot of Poe, Chewbacca, BB-8 and Lando in the Millennium Falcon. And finally an image of Luke Skywalker alongside R2-D2, all but confirming his reappearance in the film.
