Doc Savage is finally making some progress towards being a movie. Playing the titular character is none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.”
Announced via Instagram, Johnson will portray Clark “doc” Savage in the upcoming film. Directing Doc Savage is Shane Black from The Nice Guys. Penning the script is none other than Antony Bagarozzi (also from The Nice Guys) and Chuck Mondry from Jekyll.
This is probably what has us most hyped for this movie. We recently reviewed The Nice Guys and gave it a 9 out of 10 saying that it “delivers some fantastic characters and some really memorable laughs, yet is only held back by a mediocre first act and some characters left on the cutting room floor.” If Doc Savage turns out half as good, it will still be one hell of a movie.
Johnson also shared some history on the classic character, explaining how he served as the original inspiration for Superman. “First name Clark, called ‘Man of Bronze,’ retreats to his ‘Fortress of Solitude’ in the Arctic,” he says. “Doc was physically and mentally trained from birth by his father and a team of scientists to become the perfect human specimen.”
According to Johnson, the main reason he is excited to play the hero is because he is a “f—ing hilarious weirdo.” Are you excited for a Doc Savage movie? We definitely are. Only time will tell from here.
How many The Rock movies are we going to get before we all hold hands around the world?
