The It movie remake has long been in development. After finally getting our first images of Pennywise the Clown, we are finally starting to feel the hype.
In the newest adaptation of Stephen King’s sinister clown, Bill Skarsgård replaces Tim Curry. Rather than the modern look, this Pennywise will feature a more form-fitting suit that draws inspiration from the Medieval, Renaissance, Elizabethan, and Victorian eras.
According to costume designer Janie Bryant, “The costume definitely incorporates all these otherworldly past lives, if you will. He is definitely a clown from a different time.” This seems very fitting for an ageless, supernatural monster that feeds off of the fears of children.
Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we now have our first official image of Pennywaise from the new It movie.
“There is almost a doll-like quality to the costume,” says Bryant. “The pants being short, the high waistline of the jacket, and the fit of the costume is a very important element. It gives the character a child-like quality.”
We certainly enjoy the new look Pennywise has. It accentuates his limbs making them feel longer, lankier, and creepier. The new It movie releases next year on September 8. With just over a year until its release, we are excited to see how else it will add to the horror movie genre.
