It’s a great day for X-Men fans everywhere. This morning, 20th Century Fox finally released the first trailer for the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.
Returning to direct once again is series veteran Bryan Singer. As the title implies, X-Men: Apocalypse focuses on the first mutant Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac). Fans of the comics will surely recognize him as an all-powerful mutant with almost god-like qualities.
In the movie, Apocalypse awakens after thousands of years of slumber. He doesn’t agree with the world he wakes up to and vows to start a new world order. To aid him in his rampage against the world, Apocalypse unites an army of mutants including Magneto (Michael Fassbender).
In order to save the planet, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) and Professor X (James McAvoy) lead their own team of young X-Men including newcomer Psylocke (Olivia Munn).
Starting with X-Men: First Class, this new generation of X-Men has been incredibly successful. The most recent release, X-Men: Days of Future Past, grossed about $234 million in the U.S. alone. Not only that, but they have been rated highly critically as well. If they continue this trend, than there is no reason to doubt that X-Men: Apocalypse will be just as grand.
For anyone looking for another great story involving Apocalypse, we highly suggest you read Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender. It also serves as an introduction to Psylocke and her powers.
X-Men Apocalypse releases in theaters May 27, 2016.
