Ridley Scott has cast the next female lead for his next movie Alien: Covenant, as Katherine Waterston has signed on for the upcoming sci-fi movie.
The news was released today in an exclusive with Deadline.
While details on the plot are still being kept secret, the movie is expected to focus on the crew of the colony ship Covenant. The ship is heading to a remote planet in hopes of discovering an uncharted paradise. What they find instead is a dangerous planet whose only inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender) from the failed Prometheus expedition.
If Alien: Covenant is successful, it will apparently act as the first movie of a new trilogy that will bridge the story between Prometheus and the 1979 classic Alien.
For anyone looking to check out Waterston’s acting chops, you can find her in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, or in Steve Jobs where she also worked alongside Michael Fassbender. Her next film is the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with actor Eddie Redmayne.
On an interesting side note, you may notice that all three of the female leads from the Alien franchise have had a strong, square jawline. There isn’t much to it, but it is interesting that Ridley Scott seems to have a certain image in his mind for these female characters. See the comparison below and give us your own speculation.
