In this sequel from Broad Green Pictures and Miramax, Billy Bob Thornton will be reprising his role alongside Tony Cox, Brett Kelly, and Kathy Bates. Bad Santa 2 will be directed by Mark Waters who is famous for Mean Girls and Freaky Friday.
For those who are unaware, the original Bad Santa that release in 2003 was a black comedy about a miserable conman who poses with his partner as a mall Santa and his elf. Their plan is to rob various department stores on Christmas Eve, but problems arise when they meet a troubled kid and the security guard discovers their plan.
Plans for a sequel began all the way back in September of 2009 when Billy Bob Thornton announced that there would be a sequel. At the time, the movie was planned to release in 2011.
More From Nerd Much?:
This news doesn’t come as much of a surprise since the movie made over three times its original budget. Bad Santa cost roughly $23 million to make, but was able to make over $76 million worldwide.
Billy Bob Thornton is a fantastic actor, so it’s nice to see him unwind from time to time with a role he so clearly enjoys. Of course, we’ll have to add this to our list of the must see movies of 2016.
