Ever since Doctor Strange was first announced as a standalone Marvel movie, fans have been itching to see how the titular character would look. Thankfully, our long wait is over as we finally have our first look at Benedict Cumberbatch dressed as the iconic superhero.
In a photoshoot with Entertainment Weekly, Cumberbatch showed off just how faithful Marvel plans to be to the source material. This was actually one of the first times he had a chance to wear the full costume.
When asked about the shoot, Cumberbatch replied, “I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”
This year, Marvel proved that they are more than capable to bringing lesser known characters to the big screen. Not only was Ant-Man box office success making over $500 million worlwide, but many critics even found it to be more enjoyable than Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Get excited for one of Marvel’s more magical characters when Doctor Strange opens in theaters November 2016. In the meantime, enjoy Benedict Cumberbatch in full costume below.
