Ever since it was first announced, Pixar fans have been clamoring for some details on the story of Finding Dory. Normally when a sequel is announced for a highly successful standalone film, we are quick to be judgmental. With Pixar, there is such quality and imagination behind each film that it is almost guaranteed to be a complete success.
Pixar is a master at creating stories that balance action. laughs, and deep emotion. With this sequel to Oscar-winning Finding Nemo, we will once again dive into the ocean. This time, Dory is on a journey to find her long-lost parents. Today, as announced via Entertainment Weekly, we get our first look at some of the friends she will meet along the way.
On her journey, she will come across two new characters when she visits the rehabilitation center at a marine life facility. Bailey is a snub-nosed beluga whale voiced by Ty Burrell (Modern Family), while Destiny is a whale shark voiced by Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).
Burrell eplains that Bailey “isn’t great at his own sonar capability, and Destiny has trouble swimming straight.” Because of their faults, both characters often get on each other’s nerves. Olson adds, “I like to think I’m a shark, but Bailey calls me a whale, and I make fun of his head, because it’s gigantic.”
To make a friendship like that convincing, the two characters need to have great chemistry. Luckily, both voice actors had no problem working together. “We would just play off each other,” Olson says. “Though to be honest, I was probably the boss of the entire situation, because I always like to be.”
