We all knew it would have to happen eventually. The beloved director of both Avengers movies has confirmed that his involvement with Marvel wrapped up with the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The news comes from an interview with Oxford Union (via Comic Book News). In it, Whedon reveals that while he was a consultant on all Phase 2 films, he strictly focused on Age of Ultron when production began.
In fact, Whedon went into Age of Ultron knowing it would be his last. “I sort of had my finger in all of the films in the second phase, but then I just had to concentrate only on Ultron, and sort of know when it was done I was just going to stop,” he said. “So I made a completely clean break – not because we had a falling out – just because I was like, ‘I can’t…'”
We have a lot of faith in how Disney handles the Marvel Universe. Anyone with doubts can look at how they handled Star Wars: The Force Awakens as an example of the quality we can still expect without Joss Whedon.
