You really can’t have a Power Rangers movie without Rita Repulsa. The hard part is figuring out who can fill the iconic role. Luckily, Elizabeth Banks has signed on to portray the villainess.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Banks joins the cast alongside RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott, and Dacre Montgomery as the power-infused teens.
In case you don’t remember the best moments of your childhood, Rita Repulsa is an alien who has her eyes set on taking the planet. She brings about many of the iconic monsters we’ve seen throughout the show’s run on the small screen.
We personally think Elizabeth Banks is a great casting choice. Not only has she played characters with attitude in the past, but she also has the expressive mouth that helps make Repulsa so memorable.
Directing Power Rangers is Dean Israelite from the time travel movie Project Almanac. The first script was written by X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zach Stentz. Since then, the script has seen some re-writes from Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (The Last Witch Hunter and Gods of Egypt).
A big budget Power Rangers certainly intrigues us. We will have to keep waiting for a trailer before we start making any judgments.
