Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the Official Episode 8 Title

And with that news, our week just got a little bit busier.

This morning, the official Star Wars social media accounts announced the official Episode 8 name, and we now know that it will be titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the implications for what that could mean for the franchise are undeniably huge. (Spoilers for The Force Awakens to follow).

Given the events of The Force Awakens, we have to assume at this point that Luke is going to train Rey to become a Jedi, herself. And with the Episode 8 title being The Last Jedi, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce that the likely scenario is that Luke trains Rey, Luke dies, and Rey becomes “The Last Jedi”.

It should go without saying that this is huge for the franchise, especially after The Force Awakens already killed-off one of its main characters from the original trilogy. Now, with Luke presumably getting the axe, we have to wonder if either A) he’ll bring Leia along with him or B) Leia will meet her demise in Episode 9 (the next entry in the new trilogy on our calendar of upcoming Star Wars movies).

Time will only tell, but the possibilities created in our minds by just a simple title reveal is enough to keep us busy until December 15, 2017 when it The Last Jedi hits theaters. For now, stay tuned to for all of the latest Star Wars news.
