Star Wars: Episode 8 Begins Production, Details Revealed

episode 8Just days after Disney announced that production had begun on Star Wars: Episode 8, Lucasfilm has released a teaser video celebrating the moment.

As the video implies, the follow up to Episode 7 could continue right where it ended. At the very least, it definitely looks like we will see more of the same location.

In additional news, Lucasfilm has also announced three new cast members that will be joining the film. Benicio del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) will be accompanied by relative newcomer Kelly Marie Tran. Tran’s past experience includes a couple episodes of About a Boy and several College Humor videos.

In the announcement, Lucasfilm states, “Rey took her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will continue her epic journey with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the continuing Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode 8, which began principal photography at Pinewood Studios in London on February 15, 2016.”

Not surprisingly, the studio is being quite tight-lipped about further details of the movie’s story and characters. Even the characters these three actors will be playing is still a mystery.

We do know that the confirmed returning actors are Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.

Star Wars: Episode 8 is being written and directed by Rian Johnson (Brick and Looper), and will be released on December 15, 2017. Expect much more news from us in the future.
