Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has officially begun shooting in Atlanta today. The follow-up to the previous Marvel film will feature many new cast members. Among the most notable is the infamous Kurt Russell.
Along with a press release, the production news was announced via James Gunn’s personal Twitter. In the post, he attached the above photo with the caption, “Official Photography on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 has begun. You’re very welcome.”
Joining the ragtag team of superheroes are Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris Sullivan. Also joining the cast is none other than Kurt Russell. With the movie set to “unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage,” some are speculating that Russell may have been cast for that role.
Either way, we’re excited for Russell and his recent resurgence in Hollywood. Most recently, he portrayed a bounty hunter in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. If you’re a fan of westerns, Tarantino films, of just witnessing top-of-the-line facial hair, this is the film for you.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy was a refreshing spin that Marvel movies were desperately in need of. Not only did it bring sci-fi elements into the mix, but it perfected the blend of action and comedy with a kick-ass soundtrack.
We hope you’ll join us as we eagerly await the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in April 2017.
