With Godzilla 2 delayed, we’re going to have to wait longer to get our fix. Luckily, we have Kong to tide us over. We’re so glad giant monsters are back.
According to Deadline, Godzilla 2 is now releasing nine months later on March 22, 2019. The decision seems to have been made to prevent direct competition. Its original release date of June 8, 2018 would have put it up against Transformers 6. While the Transformers franchise has been lacking in quality from the beginning, it has remained a juggernaut in the global box office.
The first Godzilla movie came out in 2014 and made over $500 million at the worldwide box office. While not perfect, it was an incredibly enjoyable movie that finally did justice with the character outside of Toho.
Luckily, we have another giant monster to tide us over until then. As you may or may not know, Warner Bros and Legendary are creating a cinematic universe for these colossal creatures. The first film in this shared universe will be Kong: Skull Island coming March 10, 2017. Then, after both movies have released, we get to enjoy the classic team-up again. Godzilla vs Kong will release May 29, 2020.
