American Gods Cast Grows with Gillian Anderson

american gods castThe American Gods cast now includes actress Gillian Anderson. We are expecting great things from this upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel.

According to Variety, Anderson will be playing Media, “the mouthpiece for the New Gods.” She will act as the public face and sales rep by taking the likeness of many different celebrities. She thrives off mankind’s focus on their screens. Whether it’s a laptop, TV, or smartphone, she lives off of it. As a spokesperson, she can spin any story to best suit her needs.

The overlying plot of American Gods is about a war between old and new gods. The older, traditional gods are losing believers at a steady pace, thanks to this new pantheon of gods. These new gods focus on today’s society and their many vices.

This addition to the American Gods cast will reunite Anderson with executive producer Bryan Fuller; the pair worked together on Hannibal.

If you haven’t watched Hannibal yet, you really should. It reviewed very well with critics, but it hardly found any traction with the public. Luckily, the story is perfectly wrapped up in its few short seasons, so you don’t have to worry about ending on a cliffhanger.

Hannibal is not the only show Anderson has been a part of recently. In January, she appeared again as the iconic Dana Scully in the revival of The X-Files. Later this year, she will also star in the third and final season of The Fall.

Additional American Gods cast members includes Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon and Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday. Moon is the main protagonist and ex-con who becomes Mr. Wednesday’s traveling companion and bodyguard. Mr. Wednesday is a conman who is personally invested in the battle of between the gods.

Bryan Fuller has made some great shows in the past. While they tend to get cancelled due to their niche nature, they generally rate very high among critics. We suggest you check out some of his other shows like Pushing Daisies. This was one of the smartest comedic crime shows in years, and it deserves your attention. You can find the complete series on Blu-Ray via Amazon.
