**Update 7/26/16: We now have a massive leak regarding the Nintendo NX, which is a handheld with a TV dock.
The Nintendo NX has been revealed to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. So, what’s the verdict on Nintendo’s next big console? Turns out that it is “really great.”
Yesterday, during a quarterly earnings call (via IGN), Guillemot spoke up about the upcoming Nintendo console. “What we have seen is really great,” he said. “We think having a new machine coming is going to help the industry to continue to grow, and to take lots more casual players back to the industry.”
This goes along with the success that the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS saw. Their popularity was partially driven due to the massive interest from a more casual user base. Sadly, the Wii U failed to repeat this tactic. Nintendo truly believed the console would match the Wii’s 100 million sales.
Currently, Ubisoft is the only major third-party developer to announce an NX game publicly. This comes in the form of Just Dance 2017. Previously, the company offered a lot of early support for the Wii U. Not only did this include several launch games, but the developer even managed to make better use of the console’s touchpad than Nintendo did.
Nintendo has only announced one NX game so far. While The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has a version on the Nintendo NX revealed, other games like Pikmin 4 are highly rumored to follow.
With nothing more about the Nintendo NX revealed, we continue to speculate about what it could be. The more we hear how “unique” it is, the more our imaginations wander.
