According to Coming Soon, Universal Pictures has announced that a The Secret Life of Pets 2 has been given the greenlight, after their latest hit brought in over $400 million worldwide, $300.3 million of which came right from the U.S. market.
The first film was released last month to slightly above average reviews, with many enjoying its brand of humor and beautiful imagery. Of course, animated pets aren’t anything new, but the film presents them in an interesting new light that most viewers found enjoyable. The film currently holds a 61/100 metascore on Metacritic, with an even lower user score from nearly 100 ratings. We’re not sure if this is an animated movie is substantial enough to present a formidable sequel that doesn’t just recycle the same jokes, but we now know that’s something we’re going to find out in a couple of years.
More From Nerd Much?:
There’s no word on whether any or all of the star-studded cast, which includes Louis C.K., Kevin Hart, and Ellie Kemper, will return for the sequel. However, if we had to guess, expect these stars to return.
The Secret Life of Pets sequel already even has its release date, which we now know has been set for July 13, 2018.
