Overwatch Buffs Coming to Mercy and Mei

overwatch buffsOverwatch buffs are coming to Mercy and Mei! Meanwhile, Zenyatta will be receiving some nerfs. We’re glad to see the game still evolving.

Principle designer Geoff Goodman has recently been discussing ideas for some changes on the official Blizzard forums. One thread titled Don’t Nerf Zenyatta brought a bit of bad news.

“Zenyatta is definitely playing a lot better these days. At this point anecdotal feedback, internal stats, and competitive feedback are all showing hes actually a bit *too* strong at the moment. At this point we’re looking likely to reduce some of his power in an upcoming patch, probably related to his Discord Orb.”

Later on in the Zenyatta thread, other Overwatch buffs came up. Specifically, balancing Mercy’s abilities was a topic of choice. While there have been attempts at adjusting her abilities and buffing others, nothing has really landed.

“If she were to get a new ability it would ideally have to be something that she could use more ‘outside of combat’ or something that is generally used much more rarely,” said Goodman. “That said there are some things we can do to help her out in the near future.”

In another Overwatch thread, Mei’s Biggest Problem is Her M1, Goodman explains that a minor tweak should be enough to fix it.

“Currently her ult can feel a bit unwieldy and inconsistent, especially when you compare it to other similar ults such as Reinhardt’s. We’re internally testing allowing the ultimate projectile she throws to pierce barriers (such as Reinhardt’s shield), and increasing the radius a bit on it.”

With all these Overwatch buffs, nerfs, and new modes in the form of Lucioball, there is no doubt that Blizzard is listening. They will continue to make this game the best it can be, while surprising us at the same time.
