Godzilla Animated Movie Announced by Toho

godzilla animated movieGodzilla animated movie is currently in development by Toho. Sometime next year, we’ll be able to enjoy a new version of the King of the Monsters.

According to Variety, the movie will be released sometime next year. Developing the screenplay is Gen Urobuchi. Known for Psycho-Pass: The Movie, he will be telling an all-new, original story.

Directing the Godzilla animated movie are Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita. Shizuno is best known for his Detective Conan anime series while Seshita directed the Netflix anime series Knights of Sedonia.

“We’re aiming to make a big-scale animation entertainment that people who love Godzilla and people who know nothing about him can both enjoy,” says Shizuno.

This will mark the first time there has ever been a Godzilla animated movie. However, this is not the first time the franchise has been adapted for anime. In the late 90s, there was a spin-off show developed by Toho called Godzilla Island. Additionally, there were other cartoons that featured our large friend.

We are certainly excited to see what a modern Godzilla anime will look like. Will this be the first anime that Nerd Much founder Bobby Bernstein enjoys? Only time will give us the answer.
