Pokémon Go Adds 50 Pokémon And Weather Gameplay

Niantic had announced that they will be adding a total of 50 Pokémon to Pokémon Go. All of them are originally found in the Hoenn region. If you don’t already know, Hoenn is the region Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire are set in. The starter pokémon of the region, Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip are available now with more (like Salamence or Feebas) arriving in the coming weeks.

This announcement also comes with the introduction of “dynamic weather gameplay.” Based on real-world weather, players will be able to find different Pokémon. The weather in your region will also affect the Pokémon’s habits, increase Combat Power, and you can earn more Stardust with each Pokémon you catch in certain weather.

As such, you’ll be able to find the aforementioned Mudkip when it rains, Cacnea when it is sunny, and Snorunt when it snows. Seasons affect which Pokémon will be available in your region as well, though Niantic does not mention exactly what that means beyond rain meaning more Hoenn pokémon.

The new weather system is certainly promising for Pokémon Go and is sure to keep players coming back just in case new pokémon appear. A variety of pokémon in one’s region is always welcome, especially when you tend to only travel in one part of your city, from work to home.

Hopefully this also means that new pokémon will be showing up for raids, though Niantic did not mention if any of the legendary pokémon found in the Hoenn region (Regice, Redisteel, and Regirock) would be included. Hopefully they will be slightly easier to hunt down than they were in the games. Less puzzles and star-alignement, more perfect weather and high Trainer level.

Many Pokémon Go players have lamented that their particular region never reflected the pokémon available there, like ice types for cold regions. Finally with this weather-based gameplay, that dream is finally possible – at least for rain.
